How I stay focused on studies

Hiya, everybody!

How you doing today? (sorry to make a FRIENDS’ reference in every single post)

For today, I felt like sharing my own ways of focusing in my studies since my exams are very close. I don’t know if this will be helpful to you in any way. Besides the list I made, if you have other tips, please tell me, I’m always up to try new things. So without further ado, let’s start!

  • Mentally prepared – First of all, I need to mentally prepare myself for the next few weeks that will be hell. If I’m not mentally willing to do something, then I won’t do it. Can’t fight my brain. What I try to do is to make myself understand that I can only be successful If I make efforts, if I don’t, I won’t be able to keep attending college, I won’t make my dream job come true and probably will be miserable after. If I want something more than just sitting in my computer and be jobless, I need to stand up and do it.
  • Set the study place – The place where you study, is the most significant step of how to study and staying focused.

  1. Library – I used to be a non-believer when it came to libraries. I thought it was the same thing as staying at home. It isn’t. Time passes by without realizing and at the same time, I get work done. College is requiring me to use the library a lot, since I am working with newspapers from year 1974.
  2. Cafe – On the weekends, I usually go to a cafe to drink coffee… I feel dumb, every time I say this. Since I’m going there, I take my reading books with me and I study there. It’s not a quite place at all but It’s much better than being 24/7 stuck inside my house.
  3. College – My college has a huge library and when I have breaks between classes, I go there to study. Instead of just doing nothing at all, I just go there and keep working. That way I won’t need to do it at home and that means FREE TIME.
  4. Home – Ahh, yes. There’s no place like home. Above all options, this one is the most difficult one for me to stay quiet, without distractions. I need to have the strength to stay away from the computer and literally not cleaning the whole house because it’s way more interesting than studying. What I usually do is, choose a spot – my living room – and bring only what’s necessary for me to study.

Where I sit, I have this view to the outside, I don’t want like to be completely closed from the world.

And ironically, a wild Luna appeared, my main distraction. (p.s. I love her)

  • Set a to-do list – I usually I do better when I have my to-do list near me. I list every thing I need to get done for that day and try to reward myself with a pet on my back for doing it.

  • Listen to music – This might not always be the right answer but I do like to listen to music while I’m studying. The only time I don’t do this is if I need to study to an exam, for that I need 100% silence.
  • Avoid getting sleepy – This is a really hard one for someone that is sleepy all the time. When you’re bored nor enjoying what you’re doing, you fall asleep easily so what I do to distract myself from it is to eat or drink. Make sure, you’re always hydrated. Drink water, kids! (Who am I to talk. I forget to drink all the time. Bad habit). I also drink coffee, even though I still think my body doesn’t react to it unless I’ve drank 3 of it. Another thing that keeps me more active is gum or even eating chocolate.

  • Apps can be your best friend [not sponsored, I wish]– I can’t focus on anything when I have my phone around so that can cause a lot of trouble. I think it was a year ago or so, I found an app that helped me get more focus on studies. The app was called Forest: Stay focused. You probably already now what this is all about, you’ve probably seen it in websites or even on play store. I also use Tide: Stay focused, be peaceful and also Brain Focus Productivity Timer.

  1. I use the Forest app too! It’s super useful, since my phone is my biggest distraction when it comes to studying. I also used to think studying in the library is the same as studying at home, but it’s totally different. I sometimes get pulled by my bed if I study in my room πŸ˜…

  2. This were really useful tips πŸ’• When I was in college I always studied better at home than in the library. I also had to study in silence. My phone was a big distraction but I turned it off evey time I was studying πŸ˜‚

  3. Good luck with your exams! It is so important to have the right tools, location, and mindset to study. I am so in love with your Pusheen pencil bag. I used to hang out at the Library A LOT. It’s a great place to study. Oh man, don’t forget to bring snacks!

  6. I think a good thing for when you’re studying so you can stay up and not fall asleep, is just to play some music and make yourself feel like you’re doing something fun lol. Another good app for studying is Quizlet, to make you’re own flashcards.
